OAKLEY -- A boy was airlifted to the hospital Thursday after being hit on his bicycle on his way to school, police said.

The boy was not seriously injured, authorities said, and details on how the crash occurred are still being investigated, Sgt. Jeff Solomon said.

Police responded to the area of O'Hara Park Middle School about 7:30 a.m. to find the boy in the middle of the street on Cypress Road, Sgt. Jeff Solomon said. Police estimated the boy was 9 years old.

The street was briefly closed in anticipation of a medical helicopter and to allow for police investigation.

The boy was treated for minor injuries including scrapes and bruises, Solomon said. The incident is still under investigation.
