OAKLEY -- One person died after a crash involving at least three vehicles at one of the town's main intersections Friday afternoon, authorities said.

Police did not specify the gender of the person who died in the 3 p.m. wreck at Empire Avenue and Laurel Road. At least one of the three vehicles was overturned and on fire when rescuers arrived at the scene, Contra Costa Sheriff's Office spokesman Jimmy Lee said.

The conditions of the other individuals involved in the crash were not released.

Authorities did not have details yet regarding how the crash occurred. Empire Avenue and Laurel Road are expected to be closed at the intersection until at least 10 p.m. as investigators examine the scene, he said.

The same intersection was the scene of a wreck on Thursday night that caused nearly 4,000 people to lose their power in Oakley and parts of Antioch. In that incident, a vehicle slammed into a power pole. There were no updates on the conditions of those involved in that wreck.
