SAN RAMON -- Authorities have found a pair of hikers who got lost and ran out of water in the Las Trampas Regional Wilderness on Sunday when temperatures were surging toward 100 degrees.

The hikers called a friend when they became lost, according to Lt. Jon King of the East Bay Regional Parks Police Department. The friend called park authorities at 3:42 p.m., and the rescue effort began immediately.

The hikers were picked up by a helicopter around 4:30 p.m. and taken to a park station, King said. They did not have any serious injuries and declined further medical attention, he said.
