WALNUT CREEK-- Two lanes in both directions of Ygnacio Valley Road will be closed Tuesday though Friday from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. from Oakland Boulevard east to Oak Grove Road -- most of its run through the city.

The city is analyzing the road to see how it's holding up to determine what repairs it may need, said City Engineer Steve Waymire. The city will use information gained through the night closures and compare it to data from the last time the road was analyzed to see if major repairs are necessary.

"The pavement structure on Ygnacio Valley Road is unique and has been lasting much better than similar roadways," Waymire said. "Part of this has to do with the work our maintenance staff performs on Ygnacio."

The majority of the testing is being paid for with a grant form the Metropolitan Transportation Commission. Results from the testing won't be available for several months.
