The Berean Christian High football team was no match for host El Cerrito in a game between unbeaten teams in the Tri-County Athletic League Rock Division on Friday night.
The Gauchos (7-0, 3-0 TCAL Rock) scored twice in the first 68 seconds of the game, including an 88-yard opening kickoff return by Marcellus Pippins, on their way to a 59-6 victory.
The second touchdown occurred when Marshon Ardoin scored on a 1-yard plunge after the Gauchos recovered a fumble inside the 1-yard line.
El Cerrito led 39-0 after the first quarter. In addition to offensive touchdowns, the Gauchos scored on two fumble recoveries and a 47-yard punt return by Keith Benjamin with 2:32 left in the first half that gave El Cerrito a 59-0 lead. At that point, both coaches agreed to start a running clock.
Ardoin added a 73-yard touchdown run in the first quarter with 3:21 left. Jalen Harvey recovered a fumble and rumbled for a touchdown, and also had a 56-yard touchdown reception and an interception.

Berean Christian scored in the last six minutes of the game on a 1-yard run by Nick Umali.
According to El Cerrito coach Kenny Kahn, the Berean Christian coaching staff was going to forfeit the second half of the game unless El Cerrito did not play its starters in that half. El Cerrito complied.
