An Oct. 12 Festival Gala in Berkeley will kick off Julia Morgan 2012 Festival, a celebration of the legendary architect's legacy of design and vision.
The gala will start at 6:30 p.m. at the Morgan-designed Berkeley City Club, built in 1929. It was dubbed her "Little Castle," in contrast to the massive Hearst Castle she was designing for William Randolph Hearst in San Simeon.
The reception will feature guest chefs from Morgan-designed venues: MacArthur Park restaurant in Palo Alto, built in 1918 as a World War I reception center; the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco; and the Asilomar State Beach and Conference Center on the Monterey coast. Dorka Keehn, author, artist and journalist, will be the keynote speaker. For tickets, go to http://juliamorgan2012.eventbrite.com/.
