CONCORD -- Multiple police units responded to a quiet Concord neighborhood Friday after a routine license plate check uncovered a stolen vehicle, police said.

About 4:15 p.m., an officer patrolling the area of Cowell Street and Cape Cod Way ran the plates of a blue 2004 Ford Mustang and discovered it had been reported stolen out of Richmond on Aug. 25, Sgt. Sam Staten said.

The practice of running random plates is standard for vehicles whose models are commonly reported stolen, Staten said.

Eight patrol units responded to the home and arrested a man in connection with the crime, Staten said. The name of the suspect has not been released.

The man, who had been staying with residents on the 4100 block of Cowell Street, was taken into custody and will be booked into county jail, Staten said.

Another woman staying with the residents left the home in the midst of police investigation pulling two suitcases behind her. According to Staten, she is not said to be connected with the theft of the vehicle, and the residents of the home had asked her to leave.
