MARTINEZ -- A man with a knife and pepper spray robbed a pizza shop Friday night and got away with cash, police said.

Officers responded just before 11 p.m. to Pacifica Pizza at 500 Main St. for a report of an armed robbery, said Sgt. Steven Gaul.

The suspect entered the restaurant, wielded a knife at an employee and demanded money from the cash register, Gaul said.

The employee handed over cash then ordered the employee to the ground, Gaul said. The suspect threatened to use pepper spray on the employee, then fled the store.

Police said the suspect is described as a white man between 40 and 50 years old, 5 feet 7 inches tall with a medium build. He wore a black and gray hooded sweatshirt and dark-colored pants.

Anyone with information about the robbery can call Martinez Police at 925-372-3450.
