FREMONT -- The death of a man found Friday in Alameda Creek was ruled a suicide.
A person walking behind the Creekside Village Apartments, near Paseo Padre Parkway and Sequoia Terrace, found the body at 8:10 a.m. Friday, police said.
The victim, an 86-year-old man, lived in a nearby apartment complex and jumped off a bridge and into the creek. The man had a suicide note in his pocket, police said.
Fremont police responded to the scene and passed the case to the Alameda County Sheriff's Office, which ruled the death a suicide, said spokesman Sgt. J.D. Nelson said.
The creek, which was cordoned off for most of Friday morning, has since reopened.
