SONOMA COUNTY -- Seven people were rescued from an overturned boat in Tomales Bay on Sunday afternoon, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

The Sonoma County Sheriff's Office contacted the Coast Guard's Bodega Bay station around 1:30 p.m. regarding an overturned 25-foot pleasure craft, Coast Guard spokesman Mike Lutz said. The Sheriff's Office's Henry 1 rescue helicopter pulled two people from the water and three others were able to make their way to shore on their own.

Two others were rescued from the boat by the Sonoma County Fire Department, Lutz said.

The two who were rescued by helicopter were taken to a hospital, while the others were evaluated on shore. All seven appeared to have escaped injury, Lutz said.

In addition to the Sheriff's Office helicopter and boat, the Coast Guard had two 47-foot motor lifeboats and a Dolphin rescue helicopter on the scene, he said.
