ORINDA -- Traffic is recovering on eastbound Highway 24 just east of the Caldecott Tunnel after a multicar crash briefly blocked all lanes, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Major injuries were reported, but there was no specific information on victims. Fire and paramedic units have been sent to the scene.

The crash was reported about 6:08 a.m., just west of the Wilder Avenue exit. At least six vehicles were involved, according to CHP Officer Scott Cakebread.

All lanes of the eastbound side were blocked for about an hour, but the roadway was completely reopened by about 8:15 a.m. Traffic in the westbound direction was slowed heavily by drivers looking at the crash's aftermath.
