SAN LEANDRO-- Two teenage suspects who reportedly assaulted a young woman as she was riding bikes with her sister were arrested Wednesday and taken to juvenile hall, police said.

On October 15 at about 3:15 p.m., officers responded to the 1400 block of Bancroft Ave. where the assault had taken place, Lt. Randall Brandt said. The victim told officers that she and her sister were riding their bicycles when a teenage boy and girl approached them and forced them to stop moving.

The female suspect then demanded to use their bicycles, orders that the victims refused, Brandt said. The suspect started punching and kicking one of the victims until she fell off her bike, and continued doing so as she lay on the ground.

The male suspect rode away on the victim's bicycle and both suspects fled the scene, Brandt said. Officers scanned the area and could locate neither the suspects nor the bicycle.

On Wednesday, officers found and arrested the suspects in San Leandro, Brandt said. The pair was arrested and booked into juvenile hall, though the bicycle has not been located.
