San Francisco firefighters extinguished a two-alarm fire in the city's Monterey Heights neighborhood tonight, fire officials said.

The fire was reported at 6:36 p.m. at a two-story home at 42 Fernwood Drive.

The home was being renovated at the time, and no one was home, a fire lieutenant said.

A second alarm was called and it took nearly 90 minutes to control the fire, which was finally declared under control at about 8 p.m.
