SAN LEANDRO -- Roads near Castro and Alvarado streets have reopened after police searched unsuccessfully for a man believed to be carrying a handgun.

Police closed streets around San Leandro Boulevard, Castro, Williams and Alvarado Streets about 4 p.m. after responding to reports of a street fight in the area. About six males involved in the fight scattered when officers arrived, police said. Officers pursued one of the fighters, a teen about 16 or 17 years old, who was believed to be carrying a weapon.

Roads were closed during the search, but reopened about 5 p.m. after the search was called off. No suspects were detained, but a handgun was found in the area.

The suspect was last seen running on the 700 block of Castro Street.
