Berkeley Repertory Theatre was forced to abruptly cancel the Nov. 15 performance of Mary Zimmerman's new production, "The White Snake," after a key performer became ill.

The company asked ticket holders to contact the box office at 510-647-2949 to schedule a new performance date.

The play is Zimmerman's adaptation of a Chinese fable about two snakes/spirits who take human form and undergo a magical adventure.

Bay Area News Group reviewer Karen D'Souza says the production "dazzles with a shimmering spectacle" and adds, "there's not a moment in this 100-minute visual feast when the eye isn't entranced and the heart touched."

The play runs through Dec. 23 at Berkeley Rep's Roda Theatre, 2025 Addison St., Berkeley. More information is at www.berkeleyrep.org.
