SAN JOSE -- Five people were displaced when a blaze spread from a back patio and into their Interbay Drive home Thursday afternoon, fire officials said.
Smoke was spotted by a fire crew that was in the area around 12:24 p.m., said San Jose fire Capt. Reggie Williams. They were joined by another crew at the single-family home on the 2000 block of Interbay, which is blocks away from Reid-Hillview airport in East San Jose.
"Once they got there, the found the exterior fire had made its way into the kitchen and attic," Williams said. "It burned up the house pretty good."
Williams said the house was deemed uninhabitable, and the American Red Cross was called to assist in finding temporary shelter for the residents.
Fire investigators found the fire to be of "accidental but undetermined" origin. It was brought under control at 1:10 p.m.
No one was injured.
