CONCORD -- Police arrested a 14-year-old Pittsburg boy Sunday after he reportedly stole an employee's car from a Burger King parking lot and crashed it a short distance away, police said.

About 6:50 p.m., officers responded to reports of a two-car collision on Olivera Road near Northwood Drive, Lt. Darrell Graham said. About that same time, the employee of a nearby Burger King at 3399 Port Chicago Highway reported her car had been stolen.

The employee, who followed the thief in a co-worker's car as he sped away from the restaurant, witnessed the boy crash her vehicle into another car, Graham said. He and two other teen boys got out of the car and fled on foot.

Police scanned the area and caught up to the teenage driver, who gave himself up without incident, Graham said. The boy was arrested on charges of possession of stolen property, possession of stolen vehicle and hit and run before he was released to the custody of a guardian.
