NCS PLAYOFFS DIVISION I Semifinals Friday
A closer look: Amador Valley enters Friday on a five-game winning streak, which includes last week's 28-25 victory over East Bay Athletic League rival San Ramon Valley. The Dons ran for 296 yards in that game but also gave up 295 yards through the air. The Spartans are not likely to throw for 300 yards against Amador Valley, but their running game does average close to 300 yards per contest. The last time the Dons and the Spartans met in the North Coast Section playoffs was 2004, when De La Salle beat Amador Valley 41-0 in the 4A final. The Spartans also beat the Dons 52-24 on Oct. 12 in a nonleague game.
A closer look: It was a mild surprise when the Grizzlies received the No. 2 seed ahead of the Colts, and now California gets to host what might be a high-scoring semifinal. James Logan enters Saturday on a six-game win streak, averaging 55 points per game in that time as it looks to advance to the section final for the first time since 1997. California's running game had one of its strongest efforts of the season last week, as it rolled up 314 yards in a first round
DIVISION II Semifinals Friday
A closer look: The Minutemen are looking to advance to the Division II section final for the third straight year, but have to get through their Diablo Valley Athletic League rivals first. Clayton Valley has enjoyed one of the most prolific offensive seasons in its history, as it rushed for 4,027 yards in the regular season and had an incredible 610 yards on the ground last week against Dublin. When the two teams met in the regular season on Oct. 19, the Eagles completed just one pass but rushed for seven touchdowns in a 49-6 win. Clayton Valley is looking to advance to its first NCS final since 2008.
A closer look: The Broncos are enjoying one of their best seasons in school history, as they find themselves in the section semifinals for the first time since 1994. Although it ran for an average of 312 yards per game during the regular season, Northgate demonstrated last week that it can also throw the ball as quarterback Joe Pelletier completed 11 of 18 passes for a season-high 176 yards. Rancho Cotate quarterback Michael Courchaine is dual threat, as he threw for 1,14 yards and 19 touchdowns in the regular season and also ran for 373 yards.

OAKLAND SECTION PLAYOFFS Silver Bowl Friday
A closer look: The Warriors beat the Bulldogs 36-14 on Nov. 10, scoring 28 unanswered points to start the game as they earned the No. 1 seed for the Oakland Section playoffs. LaVance Warren had 14 carries for 133 yards and a touchdown in that game, then had 114 yards in last week's blowout win over Fremont. McClymonds' Curtis McCauley is trying to lead his team to its third Silver Bowl title in his fourth year as coach.
