SACRAMENTO -- Authorities say three San Francisco Bay area residents -- including two young children -- are among the four people killed after a crash on a Northern California highway Saturday evening.

California Highway Patrol spokesman Officer John Frizzell says five other people were hurt in the crash when a Toyota Prius crossed over the center line on Highway 50 near Placerville around 6:05 p.m. Saturday and collided with a minivan.

The CHP says three of the four people in the Prius -- a 39-year-old man driving the car, an adult female and a child were killed it the crash. A child in the car suffered moderate injuries.

Frizzell says of the five people in the minivan, one person -- a 4-year-old girl --was killed.

The four survivors -- the 35-year-old female driver, a 51-year-old male passenger and two 1-year-old children suffered minor to moderate injuries

No names have been released.
