What Hamas really does

Nabil Wahbeh's Nov. 23 letter about Palestinian "rights" was published just a couple of days after Israel had been bombarded by Hamas with more than 1,500 rockets in a little over a week. Wahbeh's letter, as usual, makes no mention of such a fact.

Hamas' "resistance" is not to Israeli "occupation" of Gaza. Israel isn't occupying Gaza. What Hamas "resists" is Israel's occupation of Israel itself. Hamas wants to end Israel's existence.

And Israel does not "attack" boats bringing "humanitarian" aid to Gaza. Israel necessarily controls passage of items across the borders of Gaza to protect itself against unfettered entry of arms into Hamas territory for use against it. Any boats seeking to bring items into Gaza are inspected, and their humanitarian aid brought into Gaza through Israel.

As President Barack Obama and the leaders of practically all the world's major countries stated, Israel has the right -- and the duty -- to defend its people against such attacks, just as any other country in the world would.

Should reinstate Bay Area rivalry

The recent firing of Cal's football coach might provide an opportunity to reinstate a Bay Area rivalry that existed between 1899 and 1996 through 35 games.

Cal used to play San Jose State just about every year in the latter stage of the series, providing a chance for East Bay residents to see San Jose State play a quality opponent in a geographically convenient venue.

It was also close enough that regular attendees of San Jose State home games could also make the journey to Cal's Memorial Stadium.

I don't know for sure why the series was terminated, but I believe that given the current success of the San Jose State football program and its pending bowl game invitation, a Cal-SJS matchup would be welcome by both schools.

Impeachment of Obama must begin

Gen. David Petraeus, in his testimony before Congress on Nov. 16 about what transpired at the American Consulate in Benghazi said what we all knew, that it was an attack by al-Qaida and its affiliates and not some spontaneous street demonstration in response to an Internet video which no one saw.

It is clear the Obama administration deliberately chose to lie to the American people to win re-election.

The decision to spread this lie clearly came from Obama himself and I pray that Congress will continue to investigate this and begin impeachment proceedings against Obama.

For all the Code Pink people out there, here is a new tag line for you: "Americans died, Obama lied."

Stop backing Israel's murderous rampages

I'm sick and tired of the constant simpering and fawning over Israel by the U.S. government when Israel perpetrates its murderous rampages against the Palestinian people.

How can anyone equate a homemade fertilizer rocket, which kills no one, to a tomahawk missile armed with white phosphorus launched from an F-16 or an Apache helicopter that slaughters numerous civilians including babies? The people of Gaza have been under a brutal, illegal, racist siege for more than 40 years by the dominant military force in the entire Middle East.

Why is it that when Israel murders civilians, bombs infrastructure, bulldozes homes and uproots olive trees, it is called self-defense, but when generations of brutalized, oppressed, desperate human beings finally lash out with a few ineffective homemade weapons, they're considered a threat to the very existence of a state armed to the teeth with the most sophisticated weaponry on the planet, including nuclear bombs?

Don't need to be treated to nudity

The degradation of human beings is about to take place in San Francisco.

Cover up, people. No one wants to see a naked butt in front of them at the supermarket -- or anywhere else for that matter.

Lordy, give me a break. Why degrade the human race any further than it already is?

I don't think we really need to see all these nude bodies parading around. We all have them, but let's keep them to ourselves.

Besides, we don't want to put the clothing industry out of business. Our economy is bad enough.
