SCHOOL: St. Joseph Notre Dame

YEAR: Junior

THE STAT LINE: Arias-Sheridan placed fifth in the Division V state championship with a time of 15 minutes, 58 seconds for the 3.1 mile Woodward Park-Fresno course. He led the Pilots to their first team state cross country championship in school history, edging Flintridge Prep 86-87.

Kendall Smith

SCHOOL: Deer Valley

SPORT: Basketball

YEAR: Senior

POSITION: Point guard

THE STAT LINE: Smith scored 48 points, including the game-winning basket, to lead the Wolverines past Sacramento 97-96 in double-overtime at the NorCal Tip-Off Classic. He scored five points in the final six seconds of regulation to force overtime, then poured in 15 points in the extra periods. He also had seven assists, seven rebounds and four steals.

Diribe Abdo

SCHOOL: Berkeley

SPORT: Cross country

YEAR: Sophomore

THE STAT LINE: Abdo finished 15th in the state Division I race with the second-fastest time for an East Bay girl at the event (18 minutes, 10 seconds for the 3.1 mile Woodward Park-Fresno course). She outkicked four competitors to the line.

Annie Shurtz

SCHOOL: Campolindo

SPORT: Volleyball

YEAR: Senior

POSITION: Outside hitter

THE STAT LINE: The senior co-captain helped the Cougars advance to the Northern California Division III regional title game with 29 kills and five blocks in a four-game semifinal win over Sacred Heart Cathedral-San Francisco. Shurtz's big performance came a week after she had 22 kills in a NCS championship win.

BOYS

KENYATTA MCGEE JACKSON, McClymonds, football, Sr. -- Jackson made a major impact in the Warriors' 38-13 victory over Oakland Tech in the Silver Bowl. He rushed for 121 yards and two touchdowns and returned an interception 60 yards for a touchdown.

JOE MCGLASTON, Dublin, basketball, Sr. -- McGlaston, a 6-foot-4 forward, had 31 points and nine rebounds as the Gaels beat Freedom 75-63 in the NorCal Tip-Off Classic.

GIRLS

CAITLYN QUINDOY, California, volleyball, Jr. -- The outstanding setter had 31 assists and eight digs as the Grizzlies won a five-game thriller over Homestead-Cupertino in the first round of the Division I Northern California playoffs. She assisted the match-winning kill.

SPENCER MOORE, St. Mary's, cross country, Jr. -- Moore finished ninth in the Division IV state championship race with a time of 18:46. It is the third straight year that Moore has finished in the top 10.
