Free flu shots are available through the end of December for all Bay Area youths ages 4 to 18 in pharmacies at most local Target stores.
The vaccinations are being funded by the Page Family Foundation set up by Google co-founder Larry Page and his wife, Lucy.
"While many adults have the opportunity to receive a flu vaccine through their work or programs sponsored by organizations, immunizing children is often forgotten," said Wayne Osborne, a Page Family Foundation representative.
"For some children, the cost of a flu shot could be prohibitive, so Larry and Lucy want to remove that obstacle," he said.
Many younger children will require a booster shot after the initial vaccination, and those also will be free.
