BRENTWOOD -- An elderly man who went missing Sunday evening while riding his bicycle has been located and is in good health, officials said.

Kenneth Kolthoff, who disappeared after riding his bicycle near the 8400 block of Byron Highway, was located Monday about 2 p.m. at a gas station near the intersection of Lone Tree Way and Brentwood Boulevard, according to the Contra Costa Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff's deputies found Kolthoff at the gas station after a resident who saw media reports about him disappearing called 911 to report seeing him there.

According to officials, Kolthoff got lost and spent the night riding his bike trying to find his way home. He was in good health and was taken home to his family, officials said.

Initially, officials said Kolthoff is age 88, but a later report noted he is 87.

Kolthoff, who lives in the 2700 block of Virginia Drive, was reported missing by family about 8:45 p.m. Sunday. His family told deputies that before he disappeared he went out to run an errand.
