SUNNYVALE -- Police are investigating an armed robbery and an attempted stickup near the Sunnyvale Caltrain station early Tuesday.

Officers were called to the train station on West Evelyn Avenue about 12:15 a.m. for reports of a robbery, Capt. Carl Rushmeyer said. They found a woman who told them she was waiting for a taxi when she was approached by a man who threatened her with a handgun.

The man took her purse and fled. The woman was not injured.

A few minutes later, a man called police after he said he was confronted by two men who pushed him down near West Evelyn at South Murphy avenues and brandished a handgun. They demanded the victim's money but ran off without taking anything, Rushmeyer said.

Further details were not released.

Police are exploring whether the incidents are related based on their proximity in both time and area. Anyone with information for police can call 408-730-7110.
