HAYWARD -- Keeping with a 20-year tradition, police officers will give away toys and gifts to about 100 families on Saturday.
Unwrapped gifts or money to buy toys for needy children have been donated by police department employees and their families, community members and merchants.
Families are selected by community members based on those with the greatest needs. Gift will be distributed donated to the families on Saturday at the Hayward Police Department.
Girl Scouts will be on hand to distribute cookies, hot chocolate and coffee and Santa will also be there for pictures.
Police said they have limited gifts for predesignated families in need and will not be able to accommodate additional families.
The Cops for Kids Holiday Toy Drive was started more than 20 years ago by retired Officer Frank Bowman.
