A 24-year-old Hayward woman was killed when a Range Rover slammed into a car with a flat tire early Thursday morning on the San Mateo Bridge, officials said.

The woman was identified as Marisol Morales by the San Mateo County Coroner's office.

The collision happened about 3:30 a.m. in the westbound lanes of the bridge, on the decline section, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Arturo Montiel. A 2000 Honda Civic, in which Morales was a passenger, had suffered a flat tire and was driving slowly off the bridge, with its emergency flashers on.

The 1999 Range Rover came up behind the Honda at a higher rate of speed and struck it, causing heavy damage to the Honda's back end.

Paramedics found Morales, who was in the Honda's back seat, without a pulse and not breathing. They performed rescue CPR, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Honda, Louis Gonzalez, 24, of Hayward, suffered minor facial cuts. The driver of the Range Rover, Vincent Ong, 33, of Hayward, was not injured.

The collision is being investigated. Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors in the crash, Montiel said.

The crash blocked the right lane of the bridge until just before 6 a.m.
