ANTIOCH -- Drivers on Highway 4 can expect delays in the early-morning hours this weekend as construction work continues to widen the road from four to eight lanes.
Contractors will close all lanes of the highway between the Lone Tree Way/A Street and Contra Loma Boulevard/L Street exits for safety reasons as they demolish an inactive portion of the G Street bridge, according to a Caltrans news release.
Westbound lanes will be closed from midnight to 6 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, and midnight to 3 a.m. Monday. Eastbound lanes will be closed 1 to 7 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, and midnight to 4 a.m. Monday.
Westbound drivers will be detoured off at A and down 18th St to the L street on-ramp. Eastbound drivers will be directed off at Contra Loma and down Fitzuren Road and Putnam Street back to Lone Tree.
Motorists should expect delays and allow for extra travel time.
