MILLBRAE -- Two men were seriously burned Monday when their delivery truck plunged down an embankment and caught fire off Interstate 280, police said.

Firefighters had to extricate the men from the truck after it came to rest against a tree and burst into flames on the southbound side of freeway just north of Hillcrest Boulevard around 10 a.m., California Highway Patrol Officer Art Montiel said.

The men, whose names were not released, were rushed to the hospital, but their injuries were not believed to be life-threatening, he added.

It wasn't clear why the truck veered off the road, crashed through a call box and then went down a roughly 25 foot roadside embankment. The crash remains under investigation. It caused a lane to be closed for about two hours, Montiel said.
