Noodling on: After various construction delays, Sam White's eagerly anticipated Ramen Shop is opening Tuesday in Rockridge -- at 5812 College Ave. in Oakland -- and we already are coveting the ramen bowls created by ceramist Jessica Niello. Also, their contents. White's images of his team's ramen riffs (posted at Twitter.com/ramenoakland) are making us hungry. As we mentioned before, White, a Chez Panisse alum, and his partners Ray De Guzman and Jerry Jaksich are pairing their seasonal, ingredient-driven ramen bowls with handcrafted cocktails, craft beer and wine.
Victorious cafe: Remember when we told you about the Kickstarter campaign behind Victory Burger, the burger venture from Sal Bednarz of Actual Cafe? The new North Oakland eatery opened a few weeks ago -- right next door to the Actual Cafe -- and just added dinner hours. As you might guess by the name, Victory's forte is burgers with sustainably raised meat or vegan patties ($8-$9) atop Acme buns, and enticing add-ons such as smoked roasted garlic, avocado mayonnaise, bacon gravy or Inna jalapeño jam. Coastal Italian: We have more details for you on the opening of Lungomare, the newest eatery from Chop Bar's Chris Pastena. The new Northern Italian restaurant is scheduled to open Feb. 7 in Oakland's Jack London Square, with Craig DiFonzo donning the top toque. DiFonzo, who hails from Yountville's now-shuttered Cantinetta Piero, is planning a seafood-centric menu, including grilled whole fish and crudo, as well as handmade pasta, pizza and house-cured salumi. Dine outdoors on one of the two heated patios, inside in the 120-seat main dining room, or sidle up to the bar to sip Ligurian wines and cocktails featuring iconic Italian spirits, such as amaros and limoncello.
