The San Jose Giants' first promotion of the 2013 season involves a takeoff of the bizarre Manti Te'o fake girlfriend saga.
The organization announced Friday they will host a Lennay Kekua Night on April 12 at Municipal Stadium, named after the apparently fictitious girlfriend of the Notre Dame linebacker in a strange saga that has gained national attention.
According to a release, the team will give two free tickets to a future San Jose Giants game to fans who dress like Manti Te'o and to all Stanford students, since Kekua was supposed to have attended Stanford according to the storyline that was revealed to be a hoax this week. Fans can also bring fictitious or real significant others to the game for free.
With the Te'o-Kekua story taking strange twists by epic proportions in recent days, another minor league baseball team, the independent Florence (Ky.) Freedom, announced plans for a Lennay Kekua bobblehead night in May.
