Marco Lopez of Long Beach asked Ashlee Regan, his girlfriend of three years, to marry him Thursday during a "Good Day L.A." report disguised as the couple winning a meal at a restaurant.

A Long Beach man took the ultimate risk on Valentine's Day - popping the question on live TV in front of thousands of viewers.

Marco Lopez, 27, arranged to propose to his girlfriend of three years, Ashlee Regan, 25, on KTTV Channel 11's "Good Day LA" morning show.

The two appeared on the show under the pretense of having won a meal at Antonello Ristorante in Santa Ana, where the hosts staged part of the show.

After introducing "special guests" Lopez and Regan, Lopez reached into to his pocket and said he had "a special surprise."

"I want to take this opportunity, in front of everybody, to ask you, Ashlee Regan, will you marry me?" he said.

"Of course," she said coyly.

He pulled out a ring donated from McCarty's Jewelry in Belmont Shore to make it official.

Lopez, a personal trainer who met his fiancee in El Paso, Texas, said after the show that he had been a nervous wreck about the very public proposal.

"I am so relieved she said, `yes,"' he said.

Regan, meanwhile, said she had no idea he was going to propose.

"I can't believe he didn't let it slip," she said.
