MALIBU - Authorities today identified a 53-year-old man who was struck by a vehicle and killed while trying to cross Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu.
His name was Luis Adolfo Olmedo, said Lt. Joe Bale of the Los Angeles County coroner's office.
Olmedo was trying to cross PCH just west of Decker Canyon Road around 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, said Lt. Robert Wiard of the Los Angeles County sheriff's Malibu-Lost Hills Station.
The driver stopped and called 911 and was not cited because it appeared the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene by Los Angeles County firefighters, was crossing the highway unsafely, Wiard said.
The crash closed both directions of PCH between Encinal Canyon Road and Mulholland Highway, Wiard said. The highway was reopened around 12:20 a.m. today.
The victim had been fishing at El Pescador Beach and was crossing PCH when he was struck, Wiard said.
Alcohol did not appear to have been a factor in the crash, Wiard said.
