SEAL BEACH -- A 68-year-old motorcyclist from Fontana died Wednesday morning in a crash involving a pickup on the northbound 405 Freeway, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

The accident occurred at the westbound 22 Freeway.

The victim, whose name has not yet been released pending family notification, was on the 405 at 7:48 a.m. when he apparently lost control and fell off his bike, sliding into the path of a pickup truck towing a trailer full of lawnmower equipment, CHP Officer Hope Maxson said.

The pickup driver swerved left to avoid the motorcyclist, but the trailer hit the man who died at the scene, Maxson said.

Three lanes were blocked while an investigation was conducted, but were cleared by 10 a.m., Maxson said.
