You have to like a movie that delivers exactly what's promised.
"Big Ass Spider!" -- certainly one of the most talked about offerings of the 2013 South by Southwest film festival -- doesn't work on multiple levels. It doesn't have a deeper meaning, or tell an important message. It just has one heck of a "Big Ass Spider!"
And, truly, that's enough.
It's the story of one overachieving exterminator -- who mainly overachieves to try and impress the ladies -- and an old-school monster that is determined to destroy Los Angeles.
All the essential elements are covered here. There are moments that will make you jump. There are scenes that will gross you out. And there are women playing volleyball in bikinis that definitely weren't sanctioned by the USA Volleyball federation.
It's a guilty pleasure of a movie, which delivers plenty of laughs and scares. Mostly, however, it delivers one "Big Ass Spider!"
