A 30-foot sailboat hit the outside of the Redondo Beach breakwater and sunk as it was being towed into King Harbor, where it remained submerged all day Friday.
By early evening, the U.S. Coast Guard was trying to pull the vessel from the water, Redondo Beach fire Division Chief Paul Lepore said.
Earlier, the agency placed booms around the boat in the event of a fuel leak, a Coast Guard spokesman said.
The boat hit the rocky wall late Thursday night, when Harbor Patrol officers helped the three people on board to safety. They were not injured, Lepore said.
