Officials identified a man Wednesday shot and killed by police after a foot pursuit early Sunday morning near the intersection of Artesia Boulevard and Butler Avenue.
Jesse Delgadillo, 21, of Long Beach, was shot in the upper body and transported to a local hospital where he died as a result of his injuries.
The Long Beach Police Department responded to reports of a man with a gun at 12:20 a.m. Sunday. After locating the a suspect matching the description, a foot pursuit began. During the chase, police said, the suspect produced a handgun, at which time police shot the man.
A handgun was recovered at the scene, police said.
As with all officer-involved shootings, the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office is conducting an independent investigation.
