The Beach Babe Bicycling Classic rolls into town this Sunday with hundreds of women riding bike paths from Long Beach to Huntington Beach on 15- and 36-mile routes starting at Shoreline Aquatic Park.

The money collected from the $85 registration fees goes into the day's festivities, says ride organizer Jonae Noble.

The ride, beginning at 8 a.m. Sunday, features stops along the way with catered gourmet-style and healthy foods, with Belmont Shore's Jones Bicycles providing technical support.

Noble said the event strives to show women how fun and healthy bicycle riding can be.

"I felt like we are creating a niche when it comes to women's cycling events," she said. "I did it in a way to make sure moms and daughters could exercise together. Even as a young girl, we were told not to exercise too hard, that was actually taught to us. I wanted to undo a lot of that."

The main course will go through Belmont Shore, Naples, through Seal Beach and down to Huntington Beach, where riders turn around and head back to Shoreline.

There will be a finish line Expotique showcasing small and select vendors of health and eco-friendly products and services.

Organizers said the ride should be fairly easy and flat, and will mostly be on beach bike paths. It is open to women of all ages and riding abilities. The race also is open to men if a participating woman invites them -- they are called Beach Bums.

Signups can be made at the official packet pickup from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Gladstone's, 330 S. Pine Ave. For more information, visit beachbabecycling.com.
