RICHMOND -- An electrical fire caused a power outage that disrupted service Sunday on BART's Richmond-Fremont line, a spokesman said.

The electrical fire broke out about 8 a.m. inside a substation at BART's Richmond maintenance yard, said BART spokesman Jim Allison.

Flames knocked out power to the entire yard, shutting the Richmond to Fremont line down for about 45 minutes.

As of 4 p.m., the line was operational, but riders were still experiencing five- to 10-minute delays, Allison said.

The blaze does not appear to be suspicious, but the cause of the fire remained under investigation on Sunday, Allison said.
