NAPA -- Omar Gaither, who ended the 2012 season as the Raiders starting middle linebacker, was signed to a contract Monday, the club announced.

The Raiders are currently thin at linebacker, particularly in the middle behind starter Nick Roach.

Raiders coach Dennis Allen said Sunday the hope was that Miles Burris, a rookie starter on the outside last season, would be available as a potential backup in the middle. Burris, however, has been slow to recover from knee surgery.

The Raiders also lost Kaluka Maiava to a foot injury which could cost him a good chunk of training camp. Maiava is versatile enough to play outside or inside.
