DUBLIN -- A father and daughter were hospitalized Wednesday after an employee of a Dublin carwash hit the gas pedal on a van and struck the pair, who were sitting on a bench outside the business, police said.

The 36-year-old Dublin man was transported to the trauma center at Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley and had surgery for his injuries. The 7-year-old girl was taken to Children's Hospital Oakland and was in critical but stable condition Wednesday night, said Dublin police Sgt. Rafael Alvarez.

Their names were not released.

Police were called to the Corwood Carwash at 6973 Village Parkway at 11 a.m. Wednesday after an employee driving a customer's van accelerated out of the carwash and hit both the man and child, police said. A call to the business Wednesday afternoon went unanswered.

The crash is still under investigation by the Dublin police traffic unit. No arrests were made Wednesday. Alvarez said the driver is cooperating with police, but added that it was too early to say if the crash was an accident.

Anyone with information about the incident can call Officer Dave Alizio at 925-833-6676 or Alvarez at 925-833-6682.
