ALAMEDA -- Police dogs from across the East Bay will face off this Saturday at the first Police K-9 Competition.

About 25 Bay Area law enforcements agencies will be taking part in the competition, including canines from San Leandro, Alameda and Pleasanton police departments, and both the Alameda and Contra Costa county sheriff's departments.

The free public event will be held at 9 a.m. at the Alameda Point Multi-Purpose Field next to the gymnasium at 1101 West Redline Avenue, Alameda.

Canine teams will compete in search, agility, obedience and protection.

Attendees are asked to bring a blanket or chair and pets must be kept on a leash.
