OAKLAND -- An Oakland man was indicted Thursday on five counts of bank robbery and two counts of attempted bank robbery, according to federal court documents.
If convicted, Amanuel Moreno, 20, faces up to 20 years in prison for each count, according to U.S. Attorney Melinda Haag.
According to court documents, between June 2012 and January 2013, Moreno allegedly robbed or attempted to rob seven banks in Hayward, Oakland, Union City, Alameda and San Leandro.
Moreno was arrested on January 25 by Oakland police on a probation violation but has since been moved into federal custody.
He is scheduled to appear for a hearing in federal court in Oakland on September 5.
