OAKLAND -- AC Transit workers have rejected a tentative contract agreement reached with management last week, union officials announced on Sunday.

Members of the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 192, which represents about 1,800 bus drivers, mechanics, dispatchers and clerical workers among others, voted on Saturday 576-257 to reject the proposed contract, according to a statement released by the union.

"Our members spoke out, loud and clear," the union's president, Yvonne Williams, wrote in a statement.

The union's negotiating committee plans to "meet soon to review next steps," according to the release.
