LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles Times says an executive hired to overhaul California's state mental hospitals is under investigation for sexual harassment.
The Times (http://lat.ms/12u6Akw ) says Kathy Gaither is being investigated by a Northern California law firm that has conducted probes for state agencies. The paper, citing independent sources, says two subordinates filed complaints of sexual harassment and sexual discrimination.
The Times says Gaither didn't respond to a call this week for comment.
Gaither was hired two years ago as chief deputy director of the Department of State Hospitals at a time when it faced a huge budget gap and was emerging from federal oversight of some hospitals.
She was placed on paid leave last month, shortly after the state Senate confirmed her permanent appointment.
