EL CERRITO -- A woman suffered serious injuries after she was attacked by a man Monday evening while walking along the Ohlone Greenway, police said.
The woman told police she was texting on her cell phone around 6:53 p.m. while walking northbound on the path near Wall and Conlon avenues when a man walking in the opposite direction approached her.
The man immediately attacked her, punching her in the head several times before grabbing her from behind and pinning her arms against her body. The man then cupped his hand over her mouth and began to drag her toward bushes off the path, police said.
The woman, who has not been identified, yelled for help and a nearby resident heard the cry. The resident looked outside her window and saw the suspect dragging the woman into the bushes and yelled at him.
The man fled the area, running southbound on the pathway, toward the Del Norte BART station. The resident called the police after talking to the woman, who police said suffered only minor injuries.
The suspect is described as a Hispanic male adult in his early to mid twenties. He is approximately 5 feet 5 inches to 5 feet 6 inches tall with a medium complexion and stubby facial hair.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Detective Li at 510-215-4400.
