SAN JOSE -- Police say an auto burglary suspect is in the hospital this morning after crashing into a pole in Almaden Valley.

Officers responded to the neighborhood near McAbee Road and Almaden Expressway at about 4 a.m. after receiving reports of people in two vehicles breaking into cars, Sgt. Heather Randol said.

Police had a vague description of the two vehicles and responded to the neighborhood. The vehicles fled as officers were arriving.

An officer located one of the vehicles, which had collided with a pole at Meridian and Coleman avenues. Officers located stolen property inside the SUV, which had been stolen but not yet reported, Randol said.

One of the suspects was hospitalized with non life-threatening injuries.

Police say five to 10 vehicles in the neighborhood were broken into or tampered with.

Police do not have any information on other suspects.
