The California Run for the Fallen, honoring California service members who died as a result of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks or operations Enduring Freedom, Iraqi Freedom and New Dawn, will kick off a two-day, 150-mile memorial run Saturday morning at 6 a.m., starting at the corner of Lambert and Bruce roads in Elk Grove.

Runners will include active duty military members, medics and reserves, veterans, Gold Star parents and community leaders. After each mile completed, runners will stop and place an American flag with a biographical card honoring a California service member who died in the line of duty.

Saturday's route will proceed south on West Lane/South Airport Way before heading west on Durham Ferry Road, then snaking north and west before ending at Byron and South Reeve roads in Tracy.

The run will resume at that intersection at 5 a.m. Sunday, proceed north through Brentwood and Oakley, over the Antioch Bridge and end at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery on Midway Road in Dixon.
