BERKELEY -- Three men with a gun who stole cash from a restaurant tip jar and then kicked and fought with an employee were arrested in Berkeley, police said.

Police said the men came to Cafe Mediterranean at 2475 Telegraph Ave. at 11:37 p.m. Saturday and took tip money from a counter jar. When an employee confronted them, the men fought with and kicked the worker and threatened him with a gun. The worker was not seriously injured, police said.

Minutes after the men left the cafe and ran south on Telegraph Avenue, witnesses heard gunshots and both Berkeley police and UC Berkeley police responded and detained two of the men. The the third one was found nearby, and all were arrested. The gun was found in the 2600 block of Regent Street.

Arrested were Jeremiah Lee, 19, Willie Smith, 18 and Markeise Prince, 19. Their hometowns were not released.
