SAN FRANCISCO -- A fire on Yerba Buena Island shut down one lane of traffic in the eastbound lanes of the Bay Bridge for more than two hours, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The fire was reported at around 7:50 p.m. Sunday which caused the lane closure just as San Francisco 49ers fans were leaving Sunday's football game, causing significant traffic for motorists headed to the East Bay, the CHP said.
The eastbound lane was reopened around 10 p.m. but the westbound Treasure Island exit remained closed.
The fire burned on the west side of the island just south of the bridge, according to a CHP dispatcher. Fire officials did not immediately return a call seeking comment.
