LOS GATOS -- A bicyclist was seriously injured last week when she was hit by a car that was involved in a separate crash just feet away from the median where she was standing, authorities said.

The victim, identified by police only as a 30-year-old woman from Los Gatos, had stopped on her bike along Saratoga-Los Gatos Road near Ridgecrest Avenue around 12:45 p.m. Friday when two westbound vehicles collided, according to the Los Gatos-Monte Sereno Police Department.

The impact sent one of the vehicles hurtling toward the bicyclist, who was taken to Valley Medical Center with "significant injuries," police said.

Other than identifying the drivers as being from Monte Sereno and San Jose, police did not release any more details about the crash.
